AIC Prize for Conference Attendance

The Geographical Information Science Research Group (GIScRG) of the Royal Geographical Society with IBG (RGS-IBG) has now established an Annual International Conference (AIC) Prize 🏆. The award is worth the monetary equivalent of full 4-day conference attendance (£185, see details here), which can be spent on the registration fee, travel or accommodation. The deadline for applications is 5 pm, Monday, June 5th ⏱.

We accept submissions from researchers not holding a full-time, permanent academic position, with an accepted abstract sponsored by the GIScRG (see here) or related fields including: critical GIS, qualitative GIS, spatial analysis, spatial modelling or geocomputation.

To be considered for the prize, please email giscience.rgs@gmail.com, with subject title: ‘GIScRG Conference Prize 2023’ before 5 pm on June 5th, including your session organisers in cc. Please include:

  1. Your accepted abstract.
  2. Proof of acceptance as a PDF. This can be an email or signed document, which must include the session title and call.
  3. Your bio, including workplace or university affiliation (max 100 words).
  4. A brief statement on how attending this conference will benefit your personal development and work (up to five sentences).
  5. Award preference: 1/ full conference registration or 2/ single-day attendance with the remaining to be used for travel (please specify your attendance date)

The purpose of this award is to enable a wide exchange of the best research across all levels of the GIS community. Thus, we particularly welcome early-career researchers who self-identify as being part of a group typically underrepresented in geospatial research and industry. These may include female applicants and those from marginalised communities. We will make our decision, inform the winner and transfer the award before the early bird deadline (Friday, June 9th). We look forward to receiving your abstracts by 5 pm, Monday, June 5th and meeting the winner at the conference!
